Tarot Card Gen is a free, web-based tarot card generator designed to offer a moment of reflection and a fresh perspective through digital tarot readings. It utilizes a complete 78-card Rider–Waite–Smith deck, including 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards, providing users with traditional themes and reflection prompts without requiring any sign-up or account.
The platform allows users to draw 1, 3, or 5 cards, catering to different depths of inquiry. A single card offers a focused insight, a three-card spread explores past, present, and a possible direction, while a five-card spread provides a wider perspective on a situation, including challenges, support, actions, and potential outcomes. Users can also choose to include reversed cards, which are assigned an independent 50% chance of appearing reversed, inviting reflection on themes that might be blocked, inward, or uneven.
Key features of Tarot Card Gen include:
- Customizable Spreads: Select from 1, 3, or 5 card layouts to match your question or need for reflection.
- Upright and Reversed Meanings: Access traditional interpretations for both upright and reversed card orientations.
- No Duplicates: Each draw shuffles the full deck, and cards are selected without replacement within a single spread, ensuring a unique set of cards for each reading.
- Practice Mode: Users can hide card meanings to practice their own interpretations before revealing the provided explanations, fostering a deeper understanding of tarot.
- Save and Share Readings: Readings can be saved locally in the browser (up to 20) or shared via a unique link that preserves the exact cards, their order, and orientation, making it easy to revisit or discuss spreads.
- Comprehensive Card Meanings: The site offers a directory of quick meanings for all 78 cards, with in-depth guides available for select Major Arcana cards like The Fool, Death, and The Sun.
- Learning Resources: A dedicated "Learn Tarot" section provides guides on how to use the generator, compare different spreads, and understand reversed cards, making it accessible for beginners.
The generator functions by shuffling all 78 card identities in the browser and selecting the requested number. If reversals are enabled, it also assigns an orientation. The tool emphasizes that it does not predict events or provide yes-or-no answers, but rather offers images and ideas for personal reflection and learning. It encourages users to combine the card's theme with its position in the spread to derive meaningful insights relevant to their specific situation. This approach transforms a random card draw into a useful reflection, promoting self-awareness and a different way of looking at personal questions or daily prompts.
